Frequently Asked Questions

Do you accept insurance?

We will be accepting Care First and BCBS policies that have acupuncture coverage starting March 23, 2024. Click here to verify if your policy has Acupuncture benefits on it. Unfortunately, insurance reimbursements from other networks do not reflect the quality of care we strive to offer and frankly, their model doesn’t value the deeper work we do. We are happy to provide itemized superbills for out of network submission. Also, FSA or HSA cards can also be used towards payment.  We are confident that our services are worth the investment.

What can we treat?

Acupuncture is recognized by the National Institute of Health (NIH) and the World Health Organization (WHO) to be effective in the treatment of a wide variety of medical problems.  We treat various forms of pain such as back, neck, knee pain, arthritis, migraines as well as internal medicine issues such as insomnia, anxiety, digestive disorders, allergies, autoimmune conditions, women’s health issues, tension, side effects of chemotherapy, fatigue and more.. please reach out to us if you want to discuss your personal goals.

What is the purpose of listening to the pulse and reading the tongue?

Pulse and tongue readings are critical to us in order to form your diagnosis. Diagnoses are usually multifaceted for example, we might say someone has a damp cold condition ( which could be causing constipation) and then go about treating that with warming, moving herbs that clear cold dampness (this is an oversimplification). We take in to consideration your elemental constitution, your main complaint, your medical history and your tongue and pulse picture. Additionally, we use tongue and pulse as a feedback loop to see how your progressing in treatment. We would want to see your digestion improving and your tongue and pulse improving simultaneously.

Do I need to prepare for an appointment or consider post-treatment?

While it’s a little easier to have access to your arms, legs and middle, it’s certainly not necessary. We have plenty of sheets and fully private rooms so there is always the option of partially undressing and using sheets to drape. We don't recommend having coffee within an hour of your scheduled appointment. Following treatment, we reccommend listening to your body (which we always advise over rule following).  Generally, we always suggest staying hydrated, eating regular meals and avoid being too rushed.

How are Acupuncturists educated?

Acupuncturists undertake three to four years of extensive and comprehensive education at a Master’s level. Most all acupuncturists must pass a national exam and meet strict guidelines to practice in every state. Post graduation and supervised clinic, there is constant ongoing study. Geeta has taken two mentorship programs and continues to study with various inspiring teachers as well as gaining insights through experience. The learning never ends!

How long until I see results?

It depends on you and your goals. Once you meet for your initial appointment, Geeta or Joshua will tailor a treatment plan just for you. If you don’t follow it to a reasonable level, you won’t get results. This is because healing takes time and commitment the same way that physical or talk therapy requires time, participation, etc. There is also a wide range of treatment courses based on your condition. Someone with tennis elbow may get relief to a satisfied degree within four sessions. However, if you are someone who suffers from chronic insomnia, PMS, fatigue or anxiety, you are not only going to require a longer treatment course, you may well benefit from managing your health with the ongoing support of regular treatments. Perhaps monthly treatments with herbs and proper diet is the most optimal scenario for you.
